Privacy policy
Fretwork is a practice app for string players: a tuner, a metronome, drum beats, recording and looping, and a practice log. Almost everything it does happens on your phone and stays there. This page lists the few things that leave it, and why.
The short version
- Your recordings, practice log, songs and drum patterns never leave your phone.
- The microphone is used only while the tuner or the recorder is open. Sound is analysed on your phone and never uploaded.
- An account is optional. If you sign in, we keep your name, email address and your app preferences, so they follow you to a new phone.
- Fretwork Plus is paid through Google Play. We never see your card.
- The free version shows ads from Google, which uses your device’s advertising ID to choose them. Where the law requires it you are asked first. Plus has no ads, and no ad is ever shown while you are tuning, playing to a click or beat, or recording.
- You can delete your account yourself, from inside the app, at any time.
On your phone only
These are stored in the app’s private storage on your phone and are never sent to us or anyone else: recordings and loop layers, your practice log and streaks, songs and setlists, your own drum patterns and chord progressions, and the app’s settings if you do not sign in. Uninstalling Fretwork removes them.
The microphone
Fretwork asks for the microphone the first time you open the tuner or the recorder, not before. The tuner listens to work out which note you are playing; the recorder saves what you play as an audio file on your phone. Nothing it hears is uploaded, shared, or used for anything else. You can turn the permission off in Android’s settings at any time; the metronome, drums and reference keep working without it.
If you sign in
Signing in is optional, and everything in the app works without it. If you do, we hold:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | To sign you in, either through Google or with a six-digit code we email you. There is no password to choose, store, or lose. |
| Name | From your Google account if you sign in with Google, or whatever you type. You can change it in the app. |
| App preferences: your instruments, default tuning, A4 pitch, theme, beat flash, and your custom tunings | So a second phone is set up the same way when you sign in there. |
| Whether you have Plus | So Plus works on every phone you sign in to. We hold the answer, not the payment. |
Your recordings, practice log and songs are not part of the account. They stay on the phone they were made on.
Advertising
Fretwork Free shows ads served by Google AdMob: a banner on browsing screens (the drum pattern list, songs, the chord and scale reference, and the practice log), and occasionally a full-screen ad after a practice session of ten minutes or more has ended, at most once every half hour. No ad is shown while the tuner is listening, a click or beat is playing, or a recording is running.
Google decides which ad to show and handles what it collects under its own privacy policy. To choose and measure ads, Google’s software in the app collects:
- your device’s advertising ID, and the similar identifiers Android provides for advertising
- your IP address, from which an approximate location is worked out
- whether an ad was shown or tapped, and basic diagnostic information about the device and the app
Google does not receive your recordings, your practice log, your name or your email address, and we do not pass any of it to them.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you are asked before any ad is requested, and you can change your answer in the app under Settings → Privacy → Ad consent. Anywhere, Android lets you reset or delete your advertising ID in its own settings, usually under Privacy → Ads.
Plus shows no ads, and Fretwork requests none for a Plus user. How Google uses information from apps that show its ads: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Who else is involved
| Provider | What they handle |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Sign-in and the account: your email address, name and app preferences. It also sends the sign-in codes. |
| Google (sign-in) | Only if you choose “Continue with Google”: Google confirms who you are and shares your name and email address with us. |
| RevenueCat | Confirming Plus purchases with Google Play. They see an ID for your app or account and its purchase record, never your name, email address or anything you made in the app. |
| Google AdMob | The ads in Free, and only that. What it collects is listed under Advertising. |
Supabase and RevenueCat process data only on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes. Google Play handles payments itself, under its own payments privacy notice.
Fretwork has no analytics and no tracking of its own.
Where it is kept
Account data is kept on servers in the United States. If you are in the UK or the EU, that means it is transferred outside your region; our providers operate under Standard Contractual Clauses for this purpose. Google processes advertising data on its own infrastructure, worldwide.
How long
Account data is kept for as long as you keep your account, and deleted immediately when you delete it — see deleting your account. What is on your phone stays until you delete it or uninstall the app.
Two things outlive the account, because payment and tax law require them to: Google keeps its record of any Plus payment, and RevenueCat keeps the purchase record. Neither contains your name, email address, or anything you made in the app.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Plus subscription. Google Play bills it, not us, so cancel it in Google Play — Play Store → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions — or it will keep renewing.
Your rights
Everything on your phone is yours to view, change and delete in the app. If you sign in, you can change your name and preferences in the app and delete the whole account yourself. If you are in the UK or the EU you also have the rights of access, correction, deletion and objection, and the right to complain to your data protection authority. For anything you cannot do in the app, write to AppSupport@Aurvandil.Tech.
Children
Fretwork is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will say so in the app rather than quietly updating this page.
